Constance Nyaunu is a rising senior at Howard University, where she majors in chemistry and minors in Allied Health Sciences. She is interested in pursuing a career in medicine and research . Prior to this program, Constance participated in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (now the Summer Health Professionals Education Program) at Howard University. During her summer there, she had the opportunity to shadow a number of doctors. She also took a course on healthcare disparities, which raised her awareness to the lack of healthcare in underprivileged communities. As a member of the NSF REU program, she will be working with Dr. Michael Summers in purifying and expressing the matrix protein of the feline immunodeficiency virus.
At her home institution, Constance serves as the president for the American Chemical Society, and the Community Service Chairperson for the Afro- Francophone Club. When Constance isn’t studying, or working as the office assistant of the Office of Undergraduate Studies, she enjoys cooking.
